Bodegas El Nido

The first steps of this winery began to bear fruit in late 2001 as a result of the partnership between the Gil Family and Australian winemaker Chris Ringland.
Bodegas El Nido, only make three wines: Clio, El Nido and Corteo (in selected vintages), aged in barrels for 22-24 months and with very limited productions. They are intense, extremely elegant, velvety and perfectly balanced wines with a very long finish.
In just over a decade, the wines of Bodegas El Nido have achieved international recognition, both by the public and by critics.
The winery is placed in the Valley of the Aragona, 10 km north of the town of Jumilla, in the “top boundary”, so named because it is the highest altitude in the municipality.
The vineyards, located in the surrounding of the winery, are planted on soils consisting mostly of limestone with a very stony surface. A layer of 15 – 30 cm of coarse (medium consistency limestone) is present throughout the entire vineyard having below it very sandy soils with good drainage, where the roots extend. The altitude varies from 700 m to 850 m above the sea level. The vineyard consist of small plots with a total of 32 hectares planted with Monastrell vines, with some very old vines, almost centenarians, 12 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon vines, and 1.8 acres of Syrah vines planted on hills facing the north.
