Valdadige DOC

The Valdadige DOC allows for the production of red wines, rosé wines and white wines. The land area stretches across borders in the two sub-regions South Tyrol (Alto Adige) and Trentino (which together form the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige) and Veneto. The zone includes the mountain slopes and plains along the river Adige from Merano in South Tyrol to Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella in Veneto. There are 34 municipalities in the province of Bolzano/Bozen (South Tyrol), 36 in the province of Trentino (Trentino), and Brentino Belluno, Dolcè and Rivoli Veronese in the province of Verona (Veneto).
The climate of the area is typical of the pre-Alpine and mountain belt, with cold winters and cool-temperate summers, with temperatures that undergo, especially in summer and autumn, high night-day excursions.
Valdadige has always been a border area and an important communication route between Italy and Northern Europe. The wine-growing vocation of the area has its roots in Roman times and is reflected in the documentation that alternates over the centuries.
The castles and convents have made this area flourishing and rich in crops, among which the vineyards stood out. The history of viticulture in Valdadige continues during the domination of the Republic of Venice, and with alternating vicissitudes we reach the modern era, with the recognition of the Valdadige Controlled Designation of Origin in 1975.
– The red Valdadige has excellent organoleptic characteristics. Enantio gives
the wine stability and structure of colour and characteristic aroma, while softness and a more complex bouquet are given by Merlot and Teroldego and flavour by Schiava.
– The Valdadige Bianco type is also a blend of several grape varieties. The fullness of Chardonnay, the aromaticity of Müller Thurgau, the acidulous elegance of Trebbiano Toscano make this wine very composite and interesting.
– Valdadige Chardonnay stands out for its freshness and elegance and for its distinctly fruity aroma it harmonizes well with finesse.
– Valdadige Pinot Grigio is characterized by aromas of white flowers and hints of pear, green apple and tropical fruit, it has good structure and pleasant freshness.
The pure variety wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, the remaining 15% may be other approved varieties.
