Description;
A wine from one of the only two designated D.O.Ca areas of Spain, this Priorat, where the denomination is also known as D.O.Q. due to its Basque heritage, is a blend of Garnacha, Carinena, Syrah and Merlot. The vineyard is located in the municipality of El Molar. The winery is named ‘Mas Perxet’ and is located next to the Siurana river, in a spectacular landscape with slate soils, typical of the area with gray, ochre and yellow streaks, which make up the golden mile of wine in Priorat. The roots of the vines are entangled between fossil slates called ‘llicorellas’, resulting in wines with good minerality. The alternating winds, cold from the north and temperate from the east, ventilate the steep slopes where the vine is grown. The steepness of the slopes means that ‘farming’ is performed using manual methods. This wine is fermented separately in small vats for 10 days, whereafter its is aged for 6 months in French oak barrels, before blending and bottling.
Tasting Notes;
The wine shows enduring flavours of blackberry and cherry and delicate accents of nutmeg and star anise on the nose, elegant and well integrated tannins with dried thyme notes featuring in the long lingering finish.
Wine Pairings;
This wine pairs well with grilled or roasted beef and venison, hearty winter dishes, medium and long aged cheeses.
