Nikolaihof Ried Vom Stein Riesling Smaragd, 0.75L, 2021

Description;

The Vom Stein site is a sub-site of the larger Silberbichel vineyard. Located south east of Mautern , this is just 5.25 Ha and has a slight incline, sloping east, on the easternmost border of the Silberbichel vineyard.  The soils are gneiss with mica inclusions, there is a layer of loess and topsoil of 60-120cm before you start to hit primary rock. Nikolaihof is the only winery to bottle this site on it’s own, but it is not a true Monopole. With the “Smaragd”, we enter the category of the most famous wines in Austria, made from the most concentrated grapes. If these wines sometimes compete in power, even opulence, at Nikolaihof, they seek above all depth, intensity and above all absolute fidelity to the expression of the terroir. This splendid Vom Stein Riesling 2021 is a frank illustration of this quest for beauty and truth.

Tasting Notes;

The colour is light golden yellow with silvery reflections. On the nose the 2019 Riesling Ried vom Stein Smaragd smells beguilingly of a flower meadow, playful citrus fruit, quince, apple, smoky minerality and cool finesse. You can already feel its liveliness and depth in the nose. On the tongue, it provides a lively and at the same time impressively powerful drinking experience with its fresh acidity and invigorating citrus and apple hints paired with fine tannin notes. A wine that loves to accompany intense cuisine and is made to last in terms of ageing potential.

Food Pairings:

The wine pairs well with a wide range dishes and can match food with flavours. our recommendations are Tartlet with goat’s cream cheese, salted lemon and rosemary, Amberjack lightly smoked, peas, koji beurre blanc ice cream, wasabi and imperial caviar, Lemon chicken from the oven with chard and polenta.
