Cellers Can Blau is located in the D.O. of Montsant. All of the wines crafted by the Celler Can Blau winery are aged red wines, crafted from Carignan, Grenache, and/or Syrah.
The climate in this region is Mediterranean but with a certain continental influence. The mountains serve as a natural barrier against maritime influence, resulting in a significant temperature variation between day and night. In general, winters are cold, and summers are dry and hot.
The Monsant D.O.P. has probably not yet shown its real potential as far as oenological quality is concerned. Contrary to its illustrious neighbour, Priorat, in Montsant one may work with many characteristic varieties and each vine is planted in soils of different compositions. In a way, the Montsant region is doomed for success, because it has this amazing array of soils, a variety of both local and international grape varieties, and a great climate for growing grapes. The Cariñena and Garnacha vines used for the production of these wines has an approximate age ranging from 25 to 40 years. The vineyards of Garnacha are around 600 meters in altitude in the area of Cornudella de Montsant on slate soils. Cariñena vineyards in the Darmós and Masrig area are on clay soils, and the Syrah vineyards are located on limestone soils.
The winery and vineyards are managed by winemaker Nuria López Sarroca.
