Bodegas Ateca

The winery and vineyards are situated in the appellation of Calatayud D.O.P., in the northern Spanish province of Aragón. The predominant variety in this area is Garnacha (Grenache). The vineyard soils are containing slate and has very poor nutritional content. The vines are grown on hillsides with pronounced slopes at an altitude between 750 m and 1,000 m above sea level. Located in a very dry region of Spain, with extreme temperature changes between days and nights, make this micro climate an ideal place to grow high-quality grapes, with which the wines of Bodegas Ateca are produced. The winery owns 55 hectares of vineyards, spread out through small plots, with vine ages between 40 and 100 years old.
The winery facilities are located in the town of Ateca 14 kilometers south of Calatayud, the namesake of the appellation. Winemaker Roberto Pérez oversees all aspects of the winemaking at this estate.
The wines are the result of a meticulous work in the vineyards, grape selection, with analytical and organoleptic quality criteria’s, stemming from harvesting just at the right moment of ripeness. The wines from the Ateca winery are all crafted from Grenache grapes which have an average yield of 1500 Kg per hectare. These naturally concentrated grapes have an exceptional quality that brings a particular richness, acidity and minerality to the wines. These wines, moreover, have a great ageing potential.
