Nikolaihof Steiner Hund Riesling, 0.75L, 2017

Description;

Under a thin layer of humus, the vine roots dig deep in the hard, primary rock and bring forth extremely balanced wines with pronounced mineral character and refined elegance. The wine is fermented on the grapes own, natural yeasts and aged for 4 years in large old oak casks, before being bottled

Tasting Notes;

The wine appears radiant, medium golden yellow coloured. Its nose is characterised by a seductive accord of lime, orange peel, vineyard peach and quince jelly tones. Its intense, palpable minerality rounds off the strong start and unfolds an exciting youthfulness with an amazing freshness and a very long and aromatic finish, stimulating salinity and flavours of marjoram. It is a great and complex dry Riesling. At the first tasting, the wine shows its full glory. The exciting harmony of fruit and invigorating acidity, coupled with subtle tannic notes, tickles the palate and whets the appetite. The lingering finish suggests that the wine still has ageing potential. Give it time to breathe and be sure to decant it for optimum sensory experience.

Food Pairings;

Experiment with different dishes to complement the purity of this wine, whether it’s a hearty parsnip risotto with savoy cabbage and plum-spiced sauce; a light veal sausage with carrots and green asparagus; or a succulent pan-roasted pike-perch accompanied by roasty cauliflower and a velvety potato puree with nuts.
